Clinical training
Clinical courses include in-person simulation labs. The externship takes place during working hours in a medical office or ambulatory facility, after program coursework. Placement is coordinated by the program and is unpaid.
Admissions and completion
Placement testing covers math, reading and English. Required remediation precedes Clinical I. Graduation requires a 2.5 GPA and at least a C in allied health courses.
Clinical clearance includes background checks, health documentation, drug screening, CPR certification and health insurance. Applicants should obtain the current clearance checklist.
Certification and associate degree status
Students must take the AAMA national certification exam during the externship course; its cost is included in tuition. The separate Medical Assistant associate program is closed to new students as of Spring 2026. Older certificate-to-associate notes should be confirmed with an adviser before planning further study.
Tuition and fees
For Fall 2026 through Summer II 2027, base tuition is $153 per credit for sponsoring-district residents, $306 for other Pennsylvania residents and $459 for out-of-state students.
| Residency | 42-credit base tuition calculation |
|---|---|
| Sponsoring district | $6,426 |
| Other Pennsylvania resident | $12,852 |

These calculations exclude fees and are not complete program prices. Published charges include instructional support of $70–$80 per credit, a $5-per-credit activity fee, enrollment services charges and applicable plant fees. Uniforms, supplies, health insurance and clearance expenses also require budgeting. Students should request a course-specific estimate and financial aid review.
